6 Great South Shore Bagel Shops 🥯

Long Island has always had a love for bagels. From prominent bakeries to dedicated bagel shops, the Island has its fair share to choose from. This is especially true within the many towns and villages on the South Shore, where bagel shops are abundant.

Below, we have put together a list of just a few of the best the South Shore has to offer.

The Better Bagel, Amityville

The Better Bagel in Amityville is a local hotspot, well-reviewed and full of delicious bagels and other foods. In fact, these other foods are as prominent as their bagels, with a vast menu that can be easily ordered online.

Self-described as having “LI’s best bagels,” The Better Bagel also has the perfect pairings for their baked goods. Options include unique scallion cream cheese (with an option for bacon as well), and various other specialty butter and toppings. Patrons can enjoy bagels starting at $1.50 (plain).

Strathmore Bagels, Ronkonkoma

Established in 1987, Strathmore Bagels is a family-owned and operated business that has made its home in Ronkonkoma for over a decade. Described by the business themselves as a trendy, upscale bagel cafe, this bagel spot is perfect for a relaxing meal out.

On their large menu is a variety of sandwiches and wraps, as well as omelets, giving patrons a smorgasbord of different meals to choose from. Popular as both a breakfast and lunch spot, Strathmore Bagels is a relaxed and delicious establishment perfect for dine-in patrons.

Bagel Boss, Merrick

No list of Long Island bagels would be complete without Bagel Boss. With over a dozen locations spanning much of Long Island, New York at large, and even New Jersey, the long-established Bagel Boss franchise is chock-full of favorites.

Besides extensive catering options and even nationwide delivery, Bagel Boss is perhaps best known for their flat bagels or “Flagel.” Trademarked in 1999 by Bagel Boss, these flatter, crunchier bagels have become household names and are a favorite among patrons.

A&S Bagels, Franklin Square

A&S Bagels touts themselves as the place where other bagel shops buy their bagels. They are a wholesaler of genuine New York bagels and have been recognized nationally as one of the country’s best bagel stores.

A&S Bagels are best known for their wide variety, as well as traditional New York bagel-making style. Within their menu, certain unique bagel tastes can be found, like the French Toast bagel topped with powdered sugar, blueberry bagels, and even other baked goods like muffins.

Bohemia’s Little Bagel Shop, Bohemia

Bohemia’s Little Bagel Shop is just as its name implies; comfortable, with a friendly atmosphere and a dedicated bagel shop. As for their bagels, expect to find them at good prices with quite some variety. Even popular rainbow bagels can be found here starting at $2.

Bagels are a major part of this shop of course, but Bohemia’s Little Bagel Shop says that they are “More than just a bagel store.” This becomes obvious from looking at their menu, which includes plenty of non-bagel options, such as sandwiches and lunch items right off the grill.

Long Island Bagel Cafe, Long Beach

Long Island Bagel Cafe, with nine different locations, has been in the bagel game for a long time now. They utilize traditional bagel recipes that have been handed down throughout the generations.

On the menu at their Long Beach location are a variety of breakfast spreads, spreads on bagels, sandwiches, among other options. They have a large assortment of bagels, including specialty bagels like pumpernickel, rainbow, onion, garlic, and plenty more. For a limited time, LI Bagel Cafe is also offering free delivery where applicable.
