Copenhagen Bakery, Northport

Copenhagen Bakery has been a proud part of Northport Village for over 20 years, racking up a local following for their community involvement as well as their great location and service. As their café has been expanding, so too has their customer base, with many patrons coming to enjoy their breakfast and lunch offerings as well as their baked goods.

The bakery emphasizes that products are made without preservatives or fillers, utilizing fresh ingredients. In fact, they even import certain ingredients from Denmark. Copenhagen Bakery specializes in many different products, from bread to cookies, and other pastries. But it is with their Scandinavian products that they shine the most. It is one of the Island’s only bakeries where these special items can be found.

Saint Honoré Pastry Shop, Port Washington

Saint Honoré Pastry Shop offers some of the best, genuine baked goods on the North Shore. Created with French traditional baking in mind, their products, from bread to breakfast items shine with a genuine French flare.

What is on the menu at Saint Honoré is ever-changing. Cookies, both large and small, cycle out with different seasons and holidays. All baked goods are crafted on-site, and this includes their bread. Their French baguette and their French Country Loaves are a part of an ideal bread menu for those who want to branch and explore great tastes and textures.

Blue Duck Bakery Café, Greenport

Blue Duck Bakery has two locations on Long Island, with their Greenport spot having opened in 2013. They are family-owned and operated by the Kouris family, the members of which maintain various roles within the bakeries. Blue Duck Bakery is particularly known for their artisanal bread, which is distributed throughout the LI and Manhattan area.

According to Blue Duck Bakery, their selection of pastries, bread, cakes, and cookies, are baked fresh daily and keep tradition in mind. As they are known for their bread, it can be easy to overlook other menu items, but their hand-crafted cakes are designed beautifully, and their fresh danishes and croissants are nothing to scoff at. All in all, Blue Duck Bakery has a promising and well-rounded menu.

North Fork Doughnut Company, Mattituck

North Fork Doughnut Company is the only dedicated doughnut shop on this list. Offering delectable doughnut staples as well as unique artisanal products, North Fork Doughnut Company is a Long Island gem, and well worth the visit.

NOFO DOCO as they are sometimes known has two locations: one in Bay Shore, and one in Mattituck. They make their fresh doughnuts daily and are generally open until 5 p.m. or until sold out (which is frequent). As a craft doughnut shop, their menu offerings are some of the best around. Available daily is classics and specials, but their Mattituck location has the unique Samoa Doughnut, offered only there.

Through their use of traditional European baking methods, Duck Island has become one of the leading bakeries on Long Island. They even offer well-reviewed baking classes for those 16 years or older, teaching traditional methods across a few different baking mediums.

Bread offered at Duck Island is numerous and can be ordered online. Options include traditional baguettes, fougasse, and their famous Duck Island Sourdough Bread.
