This year’s eWaste event, which occurred on April 23 just following Earth Day, was a resounding success, resulting in over 7,000 pounds of waste to be collected by Two Brothers Scrap Metal based out of Farmingdale.

This was the fifth eWaste Drive conducted by the school. Hundreds of items from unused hard drives, printers, and even televisions were donated to the drive through the support of Mineola residents.

The event was initially launched by the school’s Robotics Club which eventually partnered with their Environmental Club to spread the idea further. Since then, the eWaste Drive has seen yearly success, with plenty of community support.

The eWaste Drive program provides a service not only for the environment and students but for residents who may not know how to properly dispose of electronic waste. Drives such as these have been widely successful throughout the country, giving people a chance to recycle and encouraging young minds to continue to do so long after their schooling is over.

The scrap collectors, which have been a part of New York’s scrap metal industry since 1982, donated a container to be used by the students for the event. Two Brothers Scrap Metal have been partnered with the school since their program began, in total hauling and recycling more than 38,000 pounds of waste.

Two Brothers Scrap Metal has a wide variety of materials that they can recycle, offering high prices for aluminum, brass, faucets, wires, motors, and more. You can find their website here, where they highlight plenty of their different scrap-based services.

Residents should also visit Mineola’s public school website, a great source for information on local events and club activities.
